Gomal Zam Dam is located in Gomal Zam River in Pakistan. This project takes agricultural irrigation as the main purpose, it also can prevent flood, generate electricity and provide water for people’s life. On September 12, 2013, Gomal Zam Dam was finished smoothly.

Gomal Zam Dam is an arched and roller compacted concrete gravity dam. It consists of dam, workshop and switching station. The highest height is 133 meters, the longest length is 231 meters and its total capacity is 1.4 billion cubic meters. Because of the location, surrounding geological condition is not good: limestone is the main composition, weathering is quite severe and rocks are broken. The traditional mortar bolt couldn’t suit for this project, so self drilling anchor bolt (http://www.metiscn.com/r-thread-anchor-system/r38-anchor-bolt.html) was adopted, which can overcome weak geological condition efficiently.

Self drilling anchor bolt is hollow structure, so it can be used as drill bar and mortar conveying pipe. Slurry jets from bit through anchor bar, permeates the surrounding of anchor bar under pressure and then fills the cracks of broken rocks. It can consolidate surrounding rocks and strengthen anchoring effect.

 

The completion of Gomal Zam Dam has not only provided reliable irrigation water for people in downstream, but also relieve the problem of power shortage, at the same time, it can deepen the friendship between China and Pakistan.
